Product Photography is a specialist requirement of many branding projects, particularly those in FMCG or CPG categories. Since our establishment Fluid has worked with some of Australia’s leading product photographers to ensure brands have every tool at their disposal to engage audiences.

At Fluid our process begins with the development of a comprehensive photography brief, which is circulated to the relevant team members. The brief covers all essential details such as propping, lighting, and design considerations to ensure consistency with your brand identity. We will also create and supply photography templates to food stylists, photographers and lighting assistants that include packaging dimensions and markup to ensure every shot aligns with the product’s final design intent.

Pre-production

Pre-shoot preparation is key to our process. We conduct a preproduction meeting with all key stakeholders, including the client, photographer, creative director, production manager, and any required stylists or set designers. During this session, we review the run sheet, props, cameos, and staging, ensuring every element is ready for the shoot day. Product samples and props are delivered and prepared in advance to streamline the photography process. Additionally, Fluid ensures all necessary Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) are in place, particularly for on-site shoots or those involving talent, guaranteeing the highest safety standards.

On Set Protocols

On the day of the shoot, we begin with a stakeholder intent meeting, reviewing the brief and shot list to confirm alignment. OHS and SWMS protocols are reviewed to ensure a safe working environment. As the photography session progresses, first-of-kind shots are reviewed either remotely or in-person by the creative director and stakeholders to ensure that the images meet the creative vision and the brand’s goals. Fluid’s Creative Director oversees the shoot to minimise the need for extensive post-production retouching, ensuring that the original photography captures the product’s best qualities.

Post-production

Once the shoot is complete, image selection and retouching begin, followed by integration into design development dieline layouts for review. This ensures that the visuals align perfectly with the overall packaging design and brand strategy. After the final retouches are approved, colour proofs are produced in collaboration with the print production partner. This allows for client feedback to be incorporated into the final images, ensuring that the finished photography meets all project requirements.
